I've been doing lots of reading about cams because this winter I plan to do a little bit of a overhaul if all works out. I see HKS 264 cams are 900$ but are a perfect fit. But I've also heard the BC 272 cams (small core) will fit in and are cheaper but is their any difference in power range?

you won't be able to get the small core 272's. They were part of a group buy long ago. It's now either 264's or 272's (large core) from BC. The hks's in 264 have a bit more lift then the bc 264's. I'm not too sure about duration. The bc272's have both bigger lift and duration then the hks 272's.(large core) Then theres a huge price difference you got to think about.

Well I don't really wanna get into machining my motor bc then I'll just wanna go out and buy all new internals. So I'll stick with 264's, but my question remains is 300$ extra worth it for the hks? In theory they should be the same, but HKSusa is a world leader in performance.

no, not worth the extra 300. You won't see any gains over the two. Also, it's been proven that you can run the bc cams stright up for max power. Meaning that you don't need the cam gears unless you like the bling or smoother idle. If both sets of cams were priced the same, I'd still get the bc's.

hks's has been a trusted name for everyone, but bc owns the 1j/2j market. cranks/rods/pistons/cams/valves/++/.... for me, hks is for turbos and bov's. my 2 cents

Yeah that's what I was wondering, is it costly to put in oversized valves? or even worth it to put 1mm OS valves with only cams, stock turbos and 440cc injectors?

OS valves increase the VE of the engine nicely, but with stock injectors particularly (Assuming that you're also still on the stock electronics) your power limits are already well within the flow capabilities of the stock head. Before I went that route myself (Or even cams for that matter) I'd upgrade the fuel system. But that's me.

Well I was putting the injectors off my old 7m into my 1jz because I figured I'd get a little bit of a gain that way being the displacement is smaller on my block now and should have smaller injectors. I do have a few more mods then that, but I was just trying to figure out what I would get the best powergain out of my budget, so I prolly won't get valves. But I definately want new cams, and prolly ordering the hks cam gears and timing belt just to make it look a little cleaner under the hood. Also planning on a electronic boost controller so I hold 12lbs steady, and I've been looking into the MAF pro2 so when I do go with newer turbo's and bigger injectors I can get the results I want.
