I like the rims on that car makes it stand out. if I was you I wouldnt worry so much about that 6 speed unless you plan to turbo your n/a.. I would look for a r154 from a private sale and get a turbo kit off dm for it to make it into a real supra =)

Someone can chime in here.. but wouldnt a front clip that had a 2JZGTE + ecu + 6spd getrag be best? (and.. do they still exist)?

The floorpan is totally different in the 6 speed turbo cars VS the 5 speed and autos, to accomidate the extra girth and length of the V160. Plus V160 cars came with different rear end gearing to match up to the gear ratio differences between the V160 and 5 speeds/autos.

More than just a matter of swapping it in. Unless you are going to go turbo, stick with the W58 that is in there now.

I have an awesome turbo set up for sale, would work out great on this car! Check out my FS thread.

Auto + my Borg Warner S366 would make for a filthy set up.

I would do a 2jz-gte vvti with a R154 so you're not hacking the tranny tunnel. Plus, your rear diff should still hold up fine with the right gearing as well.

my best bet might be selling it.. My goal would be 700 WHP and there's no way the transmission will take that. I may as well get a 2JZ-GTE 6 Speed Getrag.

Get the Marlin Crawler R154 kit. It is supposed to be good for well over 700 ft/lbs.

(I think it's actually cheaper to buy the parts separately from driftmotion)

or buy a MC rebuild and it comes with a warranty

BAH!

People talk about the Getrag like it's hot shit. It's a transmission. Wupity doo. You WILL need to regear, the final ratio is totally screwy compared to the W56/A340/R154, and will throw your speeds way out of whack. I don't remember the numbers anymore, but go look them up. You NEED the Turbo rear end to even contemplate using a getrag... otherwise you'll be spending alot of time shifting and the car's top speed will be a bad joke.

If you want BADASS 6 speed goodness, the T56 magnum is pretty awesome. It's essentially an R154 with an extra overdrive gear. A couple of OE manufacturers, like MOPAR use it behind the big HEMI in the Challenger, for example. It's an evolution of the old T56 used in the Dodge Viper of days gone by.

Regardless, it uses the same clutch and bellhousing as the old T56, which shared configurations with alot of other domestic transmissions. The T56 Magnum is also available off the shelf, lots of transmission companies build them up to take anything you could throw at it... alot more than a measly 700ft/lbs. Hell, a factory transmission will take that all day, apparently.

There's alot of kits out there that adapt the T56 to the JZ. I'm sure it's worth pricing out to compare to a Getrag. I'd be willing to bet you'll have the brand new transmission installed in the car for the price you'll pay just to buy a used getrag.
